The 2020 AMC 8 has officially come to an end. In this article, we will also breakdown this year’s exam in detail. In addition, as we promised all the knowledge points of this year’s AMC 8 exam are included in Think Academy’s long-term classes system, with 100% full coverage!

1. Word Problem Module

Word problems are the most important type of questions to examine children’s math abilities. Learning application questions can enable children to use mathematical science to solve problems in real life. In 2020, there were seven application questions in the AMC 8. The knowledge points include our long-term G2-G4 learning.

The average number is the knowledge point that appears the most frequently in Think Academy’s long-term class question bank. We will learn about it in our G3 summer vacation.

2. Combinatorics Module

There were six combinatorics questions in the 2020 AMC 8. Combinatorics questions can help children think more creatively, improve their learning breadth, and examine their logical thinking ability. We also have targeted training since the second grade.

Among them, logical reasoning is the knowledge point that appears the most times in the question bank of the Think  Academy long-term class.

3. Algebra and Number arrays Module

There was one algebra and number array question in the 2020 AMC 8. Algebra and number arrays questions can allow children to analyze and generalize the laws of images and cultivate their reasoning ability. We start from the 4th grade to pave the way for children’s abstract thinking.

Among them, the equations of fractions, decimals, and percentages are the knowledge points that appear most frequently in Think Academy’s long-term class question bank.

4. Number Theory Module

Number theory can give children a high-level generalization of the theory of numbers to solve complex problems that cannot be directly calculated. Furthermore, number theory is the focus of the competition. Think Academy also attaches great importance to the study of number theory, especially for the ACE level class students. We will provide the most professional content according to the children’s ability.

5. Numbers and Operations Module

Numbers and operations practice can improve children’s ability to calculate and solve problems, cultivate children’s sense of numbers, and enable children with a strong arithmetic ability. The AMC 8 had two math and arithmetic questions in 2020.

Among them, the flowchart is the knowledge point that appears the most frequently in Think Academy’s long-term class question bank. It is also the most flexible method for investigating the use of computing skills.

6. Geometry Module

Geometry questions exercise children’s graphic cognition, spatial imagination, and awareness of model building. There were four geometric questions in the 2020 AMC 8.

But in the American school system, geometry is not emphasized. Therefore, our teaching and research team also consciously provides children with a more complete geometric learning plan in the long-term learning system.

Among them, the Pythagorean theorem is the knowledge point that appears most frequently in Think Academy’s long-term class question bank.

7. Counting, Probability, and Statistics Module

Counting, probability, and statistics questions can allow children to summarize and analyze effective information, cultivate orderly thinking, and improve their data analysis skills. There were four counting, probability, and statistics questions in the 2020 AMC 8.

Among them, permutation and combination are the knowledge points that appear most frequently in Think Academy’s long-term class question bank.

Overall difficulty

Basically the same as the previous one (this one is slightly simpler)

Difficulty gradient

This year’s difficulty level is relatively flat. The first 15 questions are easy to understand, and the last 10 questions are of normal difficulty, and there is no problem like the previous ones.

Module distribution & Percentage statistic：Six counting questions, five algebra questions, and four geometry questions. They are still in the dominant place.

Difficult Points: Combinatorics are neither the difficult or key points. The number theory module is very difficult though not very important.
