About Math Kangaroo

Math Kangaroo is an international math competition for students in grades 1 – 12 that has taken place in the U.S. since 1998. The competition is a single round 75-minute test. It has 24 questions for grades 1 – 4, and 30 questions for grades 5 – 12.

The test evaluates students’ logical combination capabilities and creative problem-solving skills. Most of the test questions are word problems and present concepts that aren’t usually taught in Common Core math.

The test questions are divided into 3 levels – ranging from 3 points (easy)  to 4 points (medium) and 5 points (difficult). All questions are multiple-choice with 5 different options. Test-takers can not use calculators and can work-out calculations on one piece of paper.

Children who participate in Math Kangaroo usually develop a passion for math and logical thinking. Math Kangaroo competitors also move on and compete in other math competitions like AMC 8, AMC10 and the AIMEE.

The Math Kangaroo test always lands on the 3rd Thursday of March. This year’s test date is March 18th.

The registration dates for Math Kangaroo 2021 are September 15th – December 15th. All interested parents can register on Math Kangaroo’s official registration page.

When registering parents have two options. You can register to take the test online, or take it at one of the available test centers. If you’re based in San Jose or the Bay Area and want to take the test at an in-person test center, take it at Think Academy!

Think Academy is hosting three Math Kangaroo sessions in our newly renovated tutoring center. Our center is furnished with new desks, comfy chairs, and has everything students need for a comfortable test-taking environment.

Think Academy’s Online Class: Level 1 & 2

In Think Academy’s Level 1 & 2 online Math Kangaroo class, we review all the 8 major subjects students encounter in Math Kangaroo Level 1 & Level 2, as well as grade 1 and grade 2 math.

This course is for first and second graders, and has a total of 4 classes:

• Fun Calculation & Difference Application
• Space imagination & Find the Pattern
• Counting & Number Application
• Age problem & Equivalent Substitution

In this course, every student also receives:

• Mailed class materials
• Class playback videos
• A mock test
• A study plan

By the end of all 4 classes, your child will be miles ahead of the competition and ready to place a high test score!

In Think Academy’s Level 3 & 4 Math Kangaroo course, we review all the 8 major subjects students encounter in the hardest sections, point 4 and point 5, of Math Kangaroo Level 3 & Level 4.

This course is for third and fourth graders, and has a total of 4 classes:

• Word Problems & Geometry
• Space Imagination & Spatial Sense
• Logical Thinking
• Number Puzzles & Number Operations

In this course, every student also receives:

• Mailed class materials
• Class playback videos
• A mock test
• A study plan

By the end of Think Academy’s Level 3 & Level 4 Math Kangaroo Prep, your child will have a firm understanding of the test subjects, be equipped with test taking skills, and feel confident!
