Ivy Zhu: Think Academy Teacher Profile
From Yale to Think Academy, Ivy Zhu has used her mathematical and teaching abilities to kindle her students’ interest in math
Think Academy is continuing its teacher profile segment where we highlight the great work that our instructors have done. We believe that our teachers’ mathematical and educational journeys are inspiring and deserve to be put in the spotlight! This next teacher profile is on Ivy Zhu.
Educational Background
Ivy’s educational background is both impressive and prestigious. She graduated from Yale University, a private Ivy League research institution located in New Haven, Connecticut. While attending Yale, she received a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering.
The Environmental Engineering program that Ivy completed enabled her to develop a strong understanding of Mathematics. In addition, Ivy has always had a deep interest in math and has competed in several different competitions.
In fact, in 2014 Ivy placed in the top three of the National TEAMS competition in the United States. The term TEAMS stands for Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science. This competition boosts student’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and helps them discover their potential. Ivy’s high placement in the TEAMS competition showcased both her strong skills in math and other STEM related fields.
As a Think Academy Teacher
Now as an instructor at Think Academy, one of Ivy’s main goals is to kindle her student’s passion for math. Having students develop into successful mathematicians and math competition participants is certainly a piece to the puzzle. However, these efforts are not as effective if the students are not enjoying math and having fun in the process.
Ivy understands this concept and aims to make her class sessions and the problems that her students solve fun and engaging. That way, her students will see math as an exciting hobby rather than a chore. This in turn will motivate the students to focus, work harder, and score well in both their school math classes and math competitions in the future.
For short term classes, Ivy is currently the instructor for Think Academy’s level three and four Math Kangaroo competition prep course. This two-week fully online class will be held from February 10th to February 24th. If you would like to enroll your child in one of these Math Kangaroo prep courses to help boost their scores on exam day.
