Ivy Alumni Talk Series 03 – Yale University
Guest Speaker: Huahao
Recap:
Experience as a Yale Student
As a Yale CS student, Huahao fostered his interests in politics, philosophy, and other liberal subjects, while also developing his professional skills in the field of computer science.
Among his unique experience at Yale, Huahao especially appreciated Yale’s support to the students. In addition to the full scholarship on his tuition, Huahao also had the chance to study aboard in Israel.
Essay and Recommendation Tips
Huahao believes that Essay and Recommendation are the most decisive factors in his application. In the talk, he stressed that a student’s essay must represent the student’s unique experience and personality. He reflected on his mistake when writing the essay for his ED school: Intentionally writing a weird essay but failing to demonstrate himself.
The recommendation must come from someone who truly knows you. Huahao invited his teachers, with whom he had a long-term relationship, to write a personal recommendation.
How to Explore Interests
As one of his extracurricular activities, Huahao organized a summer camp to connect middle school students with international education resources. Because of his educational background, he was self-driven to kickstart this non-profit program and had great success.
Huahao suggested that high schoolers should explore their interests, and don’t be afraid to start something new!
